The Phillies played the NY Yankees today. It was a sellout crowd. Besides the Phillies fans there are a lot of Yankees fans nearby. They play most of their spring training games in Tampa, and train in Port Charlotte. There is lots of "friendly" interaction between the fans rooting for their teams., although things went pretty well at the park today, no arrests or fights in our area. Everyone was just having a good time, enjoying the game and the experience in a sunny setting, temperature in the low 80s, and no wind or humidity.
It was a close game until the rookies came in in the 7th inning. We ended up losing 5-3, but otherwise a great day to watch baseball.
One neat thing the Phillies do at some of their games is bringing a Little League team to the game and having them go out to the field at the positions they play with the Phillies players. They stand with the players for the National Anthem then the players sign autographs and talk to them before the game starts. The Little League team today was a "pee-wee" team. Very young but a great memory for them.
The National Anthem was also played by a guy with a saxophone.
Day 37 - Phillies v NY Yankees
The World Baseball Classic will impact spring training across all teams for the next two weeks. The Classic is an international tournament held every four years with a number of nations participating. Selected players from each team will participate, representing their nationality or families' national heritage. The Phillies have 6 players participating and they all left after the game today. They will be gone up to two weeks, depending how well their teams do in the tournament. I believe the first game for the USA team is this Friday in Arizona. Spring training games will continue as scheduled, however.
We have two days off on Monday and Tuesday, and our next game is on Wednesday, an exhibition game against the Canada National team that will be participating in the World Baseball Classic. Other national teams will also be playing exhibition games against MLB teams in Arizona and elsewhere.
It was dinner in the RV again - sausage and pasta, grilled corn on the cob, bread and ice cream for dessert
I will be cooking breakfast outside tomorrow - a bacon, potatoes and egg scramble in the skillet. I am expanding my culinary skills beyond past expectations, Under supervision from Kevin, of course.
