Spring Training 2026 - Day 26

 A maintenance day today.  Breakfast in the RV and takeout mochas from Starbucks.

We did laundry, cleaned the inside of the RV, and tided thing up inside and out.  I made a trip to Walmart and Publix for a few things. Lunch in the RV and watching Olympic Hockey again.

After a busy day doing household chores, we had takeout sandwiches again from Westshore Pizza for dinner.

A little background about where we are staying, Oldsmar.

In 1916, R.E. Oldss purchased 37,541 acres (151.92 km2) on the northern tip of Tampa Bay in order to design a planned community.  It never worked out and the property changed hands and was subdivided over the years.  The city now has a population of about 20,000 as of the 2020 census and is essentially a suburb of Tampa and other surrounding Tampa Bay Area cities and communities.

Ransom Eli Olds (June 3, 1864 – August 26, 1950) was an American businessman and executive who was known as a pioneer of the American automotive industry, whom the Oldsmobile and REO brands were named after. He claimed to have built his first steam car as early as 1887 and his first gasoline-powered car in 1896. The modern assembly line and its basic concept is credited to Olds, who used it to build the first mass-produced automobile, the Oldsmobile Curved Dash, beginning in 1901.^[1]

There is a town celebration in March called Oldsmar Days. They have a parade, carnival rides and attractions, food and vendor booths, and live music in the city park pavilion.  A highlight is the gathering of regional Oldsmobile car owners. Oldsmobile owners from all over the south bring their Oldsmobiles for the parade and display in the park. We always attended in past trips if it didn't conflict with a baseball game.

I also have a family history with Oldsmobiles.  My mother always bought Oldsmobiles.  She loved them. When Judy and I were married in 1962, our close friend, drove us from the wedding at the church to the reception in his Oldsmobile.  And, when we returned from Okinawa in 1973, the first car we bought was a 1973 Oldsmobile, 4-Door Hardtop.
